Despite extensive research, development and testing of products
before they go into large-scale manufacture, occasionally some components
wear out quicker than expected or better materials are available
to extend the longevity of them. The quality control departments
at the manufacturing plants constantly monitor components and systems
fitted to Subaru vehicles. If they consider a safety related issue
has arisen with components or systems they will immediately assess
the criteria for safety level and can instigate a vehicle recall.
Once a recall campaign has been instigated all affected countries
that have that model of vehicle are notified and VIN (Vehicle Identification
Number) of vehicles are supplied. Replacement components are then shipped
to each distributor for distribution to their dealer network.
In New Zealand the distributor then notifies the MIA (Motor
Industry Association) and the LTSA (Land Transport Safety
Authority) where they will review the severity of the safety
issue. If LTSA decide that the level of safety is compromised
they can order vehicles off the road until repairs are carried
out. The distributor will then direct mail all current owners
of the affected vehicles and provide instructions to follow
for the repair of their vehicle.
How do I find out if my Subaru has an outstanding Safety Related Recall?
Subaru will contact you by letter if we know that
there is a component or system on your car that compromises safety.
You would then make contact with an Subaru Authorised Service Centre
and make a booking to have your Subaru inspected and rectified. Alternatively,
if you would like to check if your vehicle has any outstanding Recall
Campaigns that have not been completed, make an inquiry to our Subaru
Authorised Service Centres and quote your VIN (Vehicle Identification
Number) and they will be able to check on-line with our computer
system if your vehicle has an outstanding recall and if it is in
the affected VIN range.
What is covered in a Safety Related Recall Campaign?
The Recall Campaign will be carried out free of charge
for both New Zealand new and imported used vehicles. Labour for the
campaign will be covered along with the cost of the component that
is replaced.
Current Recall Campaigns
If your vehicle falls into one or more of the Safety
Related Recall Campaigns listed to the right and has not been to
a dealership to be checked, then make contact with your nearest Authorised
Subaru Dealership to check your vehicle details, and if necessary
make a booking to have your vehicle checked over and rectified by
our factory trained technicians.
