Ruapehu Alpine Lifts
Subaru - The offical vehicle supplier of Mount Ruapehu
Subaru’s involvement with Ruapehu Alpine Lifts Limited (RAL), which runs the two commercial ski fields on Mt Ruapehu – Turoa and Whakapapa, dates back well over 18 years.
Subaru of New Zealand has been the official vehicle supplier to RAL since 1998, initially with Turoa, and now both Whakapapa and Turoa, following the merger. Several years ago, Subaru historically held the infamous Subaru Top Weekend, where the Top 200 carparks were reserved for Subaru drivers for one weekend over the winter season. This year, we held another successful Subaru Top Weekend for 2016, where we welcomed our AWD vehicles to the mountain with giveaways, hot coffees and competitions for our Subaru drivers - as well as premium parking!
The Subaru Top Weekend
Subaru's annual event, The Subaru Top Weekend, ensures that Subaru drivers can park where the others can't. The Top 200 carparks are reserved for Subaru drivers one weekend a year and the Subaru Team hand out goodies to Subaru drivers and enthusiasts. Subaru Top Weekend 2016 was another fantastic event, held on 20-21st August 2016 at Turoa Skifield, Mt Ruapehu. Subaru of New Zealand has been the official vehicle supplier to RAL since 1998, and RAL says, “Turoa had an association with Subaru, then following the merger of Whakapapa and Turoa, we extended the relationship to cover both fields all year around.”
RAL says, “It’s a great connection for both companies because we are a similar size and work in similar ways. Most importantly, the people who ski with Mt Ruapehu are also Subaru people, so our customers are frequently the same people. There are definitely synergies and benefits for both companies through this vehicle supply agreement,” says RAL, whose team members get to drive a Subaru.
Mt Ruapehu, in the World Heritage Tongariro National Park, is not only a fantastic winter playground; the majestic landscape seen on scenic chairlift rides and the many excellent walking trials make Ruapehu an enjoyable summer destination as well.
“From our perspective, Subarus are the ideal vehicles for our team to be driving on and around Mt Ruapehu,” says RAL. “Subarus perform on the road in any situation; they also handle the icy conditions we encounter each winter.”
