Safety

The Legacy has a maximum 5-star ANCAP1 safety rating standard across the range.  This is achieved with a range of advanced safety technologies built around the three pillars of protective, preventative and predictive safety.

EyeSight® Driver Assist System

EyeSight® is a second pair of eyes that monitor the road ahead and recognise potentially dangerous driving situations. Using three dimensional images captured by cameras mounted at the top of the windscreen, EyeSight® provides audible and visual warnings to prompt the driver to take action. EyeSight® will also apply automatic braking intervention, when necessary, to help avoid or reduce the severity of a detected frontal collision.

Boxer Engine

The Boxer engine sits low in the engine bay to reduce the risk of injury to occupants by sliding below the cabin – not into it - in the event of a severe frontal collision. Due to this unique horizontally-opoosed configuration the engine delivers less noise and vibration to the cabin, while the lowered centre of gravity improves stability, cornering and traction with the road.

Vehicle Dynamic Control and Braking Systems

Safety designed to help prevent loss of control is delivered via improved Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC) which is available across the All-New Legacy range and constantly monitors vehicle movement, engaging a range of technologies when required. With precision timing the VDC controls the Antilock Braking System (ABS), Traction Control System (TCS), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), TCS Limited Slip Device, Brake Override System (BOS), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) and Hydraulic Brake Assist (HBA).

Intelligent sensors activate Legacy's active torque vectoring, to automatically control braking and torque for improved cornering and more precise steering response. While a new, ultra wide-angle reversing camera provides an improved rear field of vision.

Rear View Reverse Camera

Every new Legacy features a rear view reverse camera as standard. A new, ultra-wide angle provides an improved rear field of vision and helps reduce the risk of collisions with surrounding objects.

Collision Protection

Your safety is at the forefront of Subaru design, that’s why we build safety features like airbags and our ring-shaped passenger cell into every Subaru.

Every Legacy features a total of seven airbags - including dual front, front side, curtain and driver’s knee airbags to  help protect occupants in the event of an accident. The advanced airbag system uses an array of sensors to help deploy the airbags in the most effective way possible.

Safety continues with an improved chassis and a body frame reinforced to increase frontal, side and rear crash safety. The shock absorbing bonnet design and designated crumple zones direct impact energy away from the reinforced passenger safety cell.

Front seats also have Emergency Locking Retractors (ELR) and pre-tensioners, and rear seats have Automatic Emergency Locking Retractors (A/ELR).

The results of our collision protection safety features is a maximum five-star ANCAP1 crashworthiness rating.

Multi Information Display (MID)

The new Multi Information Display unit is located in the centre of the dual gauge instrument cluster, directly in front of the driver. By providing speed, EyeSight®, phone2 and turn-by-turn directional information2 the MID means that the driver minimises the need to look away from the road. The new MID unit now comes standard across the entire Legacy range.
