Subaru announces Snow Week at Mt Ruapehu for September school holidays

The RAL team drive a fleet of All-Wheel Drive Subarus, which get them safely up and down the mountain.

This season is the perfect time to explore our country’s amazing ski fields - while supporting local - and Subaru New Zealand is making it easier to do so, with its inaugural Subaru Snow Week initiative at Mt Ruapehu.

Subaru is excited to offer its customers exclusive deals, including discounts on lift passes, from September 28th to October 2nd, 2020 in conjunction with Ruapehu Alpine Lifts (RAL) whom the brand has partnered with for over 20 years.

Subaru New Zealand’s National Marketing Manager Daile Stephens says: “Subarus are renowned as the ultimate car for Kiwi road trips and adventures, and we are excited to give our Subaru drivers this incredible opportunity.”

“Subaru Snow Week coincides with the first week of the September school holidays, enabling New Zealanders to make the most of the snow together as a family and explore what the Central Plateau has to offer. It provides both regular snow goers and families who may not have seen the snow before, with opportunities to access Turoa and Whakapapa, with special discounts for Subaru drivers.”

The new initiative replaces the longstanding Subaru Top Weekend, which is typically held over a weekend in August every winter, where the top 200 carparks at either Turoa or Whakapapa are reserved for Subaru drivers.

Mrs Stephens continues: “Subaru decided to do something different than our traditional Subaru Top Weekend promotion this year and we hope our owners will enjoy the benefits of Subaru Snow Week. We believe it gives more Kiwis a chance to experience everything that Mt Ruapehu has to offer.”

RAL Chief Executive Officer Jono Dean says: “In this extraordinary time, we are stoked to continue our association with Subaru, despite the challenges both our organisations have faced. We are confident that the Subaru Snow Week will be a cracker and a great reason for Subaru owners to come on up to Ruapehu.”

“RAL opened both Turoa and Whakapapa ski areas on July 1st. Whilst snow has been light and we are still awaiting mother nature’s contribution, the school holidays have been amazing and well beyond our expectations for 2020. We are so grateful that Kiwis have been coming out to visit us through this period. We hope Subaru Snow Week will also have the same impact through the September school holidays,” Mr Dean says.

Subaru believes that its partnership with Mt Ruapehu is likely to be one of the longest standing relationships of this nature in New Zealand, with 2020 marking the 22-year anniversary.

Mrs Stephens says: “Our All-Wheel Drive Subarus are the ideal vehicles to get you safely from home to Whakapapa, or Turoa and then up their access roads into the snow. It makes sense for the RAL team to be in Subarus, which deliver them to their mountain offices whatever the weather. The symbiotic fit between our two brands, is what we believe has been the key to such an enduring partnership.”

Mr Dean adds: “Our Subaru partnership has been the cornerstone of our operations on the mountain for such a long period of time and we are proud of our association. We trust the brand and have confidence in the product to deliver for us, ensuring we can do our jobs on Ruapehu.”
