Braden Currie is one of New Zealand’s top endurance athletes with national titles across a diversity of triathlon and multisport formats.
A Subaru Brand Ambassador for the past three years, Currie started his career in multisport by achieving a trio of consecutive World Multisport Champion titles (2013-2015). As his passion for sport is defined by the pursuit of challenge and the process of redefining his own personal limits, he rapidly expanded his focus into XTERRA (off-road triathlon) and triathlon.
Currie’s dedicated nature allowed him to rapidly develop into one of Australasia’s best on and off-road triathletes over the course of only a few years.
He is a three-time New Zealand Long Distance Triathlon champion and also a three-time New Zealand and Asia-Pacific XTERRA champion.
Always one to seek new challenges, Wanaka-based Currie turned his considerable skill-set to the grueling Ironman racing format (3.8km swim, 180km road bike plus 42.2km run) and he won the 2017 New Zealand Ironman in his debut attempt.
The pinnacle of this sport is the Kona, Hawaii-based Ironman World Championships. After his first hit-out at racing this incredibly tough event last year, Currie will return this October armed with valuable course knowledge, even more muscle memory and a score to settle.
This race has become his number one sole focus as he vies to become the only New Zealand male athlete to ever win this brutal endurance event.
Subaru of New Zealand’s Marketing Manager Daile Stephens sees Currie’s commitment to his sport and desire to go further as a natural alignment with the brand.
“Multisporters embody the adventurous spirit we believe Subaru represents for New Zealanders. We see Braden as both enhancing this brand image and taking it to a whole new level. He has established himself as an elite athlete at home and internationally and continues to show his versatility,” Mrs Stephens says.
In between races, Currie takes some well-earned time off to travel in his Subaru Outback, enjoying some adventures with his wife and two children.
“My family and I couldn’t be happier to have a Subaru Outback to take on missions around New Zealand,” Currie says.
“It’s an amazing car to drive and has the ability to take us to all our favourite spots, with all our gear in the boot and toys on the roof. From our local family adventures in Wanaka to accessing some of my more remote training locations off down remote gravel roads, this Subaru Outback is the SUV that ticks every box for me,” Currie adds.
