Subaru’s performance honed BRZ Tsubasa flew into New Zealand this week, with the 10 limited edition vehicles taking their name from the Japanese kanji script, which translates to ‘wings’.
Symbolising freedom, speed, and agility, this precision-engineered machine is built to soar, and offers the best performance and handling capability in a BRZ ever. Proudly bearing the Tsubasa badge, this piece of Subaru history comes with an exclusive numbered presentation key box – from 1 to 10 - and an especially engraved key ring, similar to the WRX special editions AKA, Tatsu and Todoroki.
The Tsubasa name is also a clever play on the BRZ tS, incorporating the highest-specification BRZ’s first two letters.
Delivering an exhilarating connection between driver and road, the BRZ Tsubasa features STI tuned front and rear suspension dampers to maximise its light weight, an ultra-low centre of gravity and precision handling. High performance Brembo brakes, including gold painted 4-piston front callipers and 2-piston rear callipers, larger pads and rotors enhance stopping power and pedal feel. The BRZ Tsubasa also sports bespoke 18-inch dark grey metallic alloy wheels, with 215/40 R18 Michelin Pilot 4 tyres providing superior grip.
This top-of-the-line Tsubasa model arrives exclusively in WR Blue and comes with a 6-speed manual transmission for its New Zealand owners.
The Tsubasa’s popularity has meant that all of them were pre-sold before they landed in New Zealand but for those who missed out, disappointment may only be short-lived. Subaru of New Zealand are already working on obtaining another special edition BRZ, which would arrive late this year.
Inchcape General Manager, Kym Mellow, the distributor of Subaru vehicles in New Zealand says: "The BRZ’s reputation as a driver's car, courtesy of its superb engineering has preceded it and the 10 Tsubasa units we were allocated have already sold before they even hit our Subaru Authorised Centres. We hope to be able to share news of the next limited edition Subaru BRZ in the coming months.”
